COMMUNITY BANK
|

|
An archaeological survey of the property revealed an intact stone
foundation ruin of a railroad turntable and this was used as the
design theme. It was our intent that the architecture manifest a
strong link to its unique site while concurrently providing an individual
identity for the bank. The building explains the historical significance
and railyard setting in a way that is not overtly representational
but is subtly referred to through strong geometric form and the
use of traditional vernacular materials. The reference is characteristic
of a de Chirico painting where memory and space are distorted. The
placements of traditional elements overlap and engage in new ways.
Through the outward expression of the sites past, the bank
expresses its firmly rooted presence in the community, while at
the same time putting forth a unique vision for the areas
future.
